Endurance IT is expanding its involvement in technology in the local community by partnering with Virginia Wesleyan University to promote the growth and advancement of the college’s eSports program.

Short for electronic sports, eSports combines organized competition with cutting-edge, multiplayer video games, and the industry is taking the world by storm. As of 2021, eSports was a $1.08 billion industry, with approximately 62% of users being under age 34.

The rise of eSports can be credited to a multitude of factors, including:

  • Growth of online streaming platforms,
  • The “new normal” of social distancing, and
  • Increased eSports investments by big brands

Endurance IT Services President Blake White sees a valuable partnership developing between the company and the university. “As a technology company at heart, we want to do our part to help VWU’s eSports program thrive. Not only is the competition aspect of this sport important, but eSports also encompasses advanced technology platforms, marketing strategy, creative writing, and more. Together, we can accomplish a lot in growing this program, and we look forward to continuing our support by sharing resources.”

VWU’s 2022-2023 eSports roster has 35 players competing across four different games, including LOL, Rocket League, Fortnite, and Overwatch. The teams are led by eSports head coach, Glenn Johnson, who is also the Assistant Director of Enterprise Resources.

Endurance plans to be a champion for collegiate eSports in the local community. As this industry continues to grow, it shows no signs of slowing down. The influx of support from Endurance can position colleges like VWU in a better playing field position with both financial and technical support. “We are excited to see what the future of gaming and sports holds,” shares White. “We firmly believe that eSports has a lot of growth ahead, and we are honored to be a part of this journey with Virginia Wesleyan University.”
