Client: City of Suffolk, VA (government/enterprise-size project)

Dates: 2014-2015

Scope: Endurance IT was tasked with providing project management and oversight for the design, construction and transition of a new state-of-the-art datacenter. We served as final decision maker and primary point of contact for all technical vendors involved in design/build/implementation of new 223,000 sq. ft. municipal center.

Challenges: The client faced the design, build and implementation of a new state-of-the-art datacenter to house all of the city’s IT infrastructure. Further, the client required the move and transition of existing infrastructure into this new facility. The city strategically decided to leverage outside IT project management for this effort.

Success:

  • Created, published and reviewed RFP/RFI criteria for required vendors
  • Performed a needs assessment and documented the results
  • Built and managed implementation plans for the various required efforts
  • Coordinated with building architects and general contractors
  • Developed, maintained and published progress documents to a variety of stakeholders
  • Adhered to initial budget, change orders and project timeline
  • Oversaw the upgrade of the Motorola P25 city-wide analog emergency dispatch and communications network to digital – $9.9 million
  • Acted as the project manager for:
    • Ground-up design and installation of a new state-of-the-art data center – $1.4 million
    • Implementation of city-wide electronic security access/video surveillance system – $1.2 million
    • Implementation of new ground-up, city-wide route switch infrastructure/VoIP phone system – $2.6 million
    • Implementation of a new video broadcast studio, council chamber control room and state-of-the-art, building-wide audio video services – $1.6 million

Client: Hilldrup Moving and Storage -- Stafford, VA (transportation industry, large-sized business)

Dates: 2014-2015

Scope: Endurance IT was tasked with designing a new infrastructure to replace an aging Dell PowerConnect & Cisco switch infrastructure with HP 2630 switches in their network closets and a HP 5412 core switch. The Dell and Cisco switches were about 7-8 years old, out of warranty and beginning to exhibit failures.

When Hilldrup decided to upgrade the infrastructure, it replaced the switches with new ones and implemented a 10GB fiber backbone – primarily in a hub and spoke topology off the core switch. With the upgraded infrastructure, Hilldrup required better performance from their closets to the core as well as enough bandwidth to support QOS levels for future voice over IP and POE features from their switches to support IP telephones.

Challenges: The client faced a migration from its old switch infrastructure to new infrastructure with the least disruption. The old and new hardware had to coexist for several weeks. A seamless cutover had to occur with little to no impact to the business. That’s why we instituted the cutovers during nonbusiness hours.

Success:

  • Designed a new infrastructure environment running on HP chassis-based switches. The environment scales as the firm continues to grow by leveraging a 10Gbps backbone.
  • Upgraded all Hilldrup sites but started with the corporate location in Stafford, VA
  • Implemented the new HP switch infrastructure on time and budget
  • Migrated the client over several weekends to the new switching infrastructure with no business downtime
  • We were on site the first day after every cutover to support any minor modifications and ensure all systems ran as normal on the new HP switching infrastructure
  • Documented all systems and turned them back over to the Hilldrup IT team to manage and monitor

Client: Wall, Einhorn & Chernitzer (WEC) -- Norfolk, VA (CPA firm, medium-sized business)

Dates: 2014-2015

Scope: Endurance IT was tasked with the design and implementation of a new infrastructure environment to include compute, network and storage for WEC. In addition, WEC asked our team to migrate the legacy environment to the new infrastructure and provide project management and oversight for the firm’s move from one location to another.

Challenges: The client’s existing staff was busy with the day-to-day support of the existing environment and users. That’s why they asked that Endurance IT to deliver a turn-key project to design and migrate the aging environment into a new high performance HP infrastructure.

Success:

  • Designed a new infrastructure environment running on HP blades, networking and storage. The environment will scale as the firm continues to grow.
  • Implemented the new infrastructure on time and budget
  • Migrated the client over a weekend to the new infrastructure and brought everything back online
  • We were there the next day to support any minor modifications and ensure all systems ran as normal on the new infrastructure
  • Documented all systems and turned them back over to the WEC IT team to managed and run
  • In addition to the migration of the IT infrastructure, our project managers oversaw the entire building move and assisted the internal facilities team whenever needed

Client: EOS Surfaces (countertops) -- Norfolk, VA (CPA firm, small-sized business)

Dates: 2015

Scope: Endurance IT was tasked with the design and implementation enhancements to the existing IT environment. EOS looked to add server redundancy to its environment. Further, the company wanted to leverage Endurance for fractional IT director services to enhance its overall IT strategy.

Challenges: The client had a stable server infrastructure but wanted to add server hardware redundancy to head off the possibility that hardware failure would bring down its environment.

Success:

  • Met with the client and conducted an IT needs benefit analysis to understand the impact of hardware failure
  • As a result of the study, designed a cost effective server failover solution that met all of the client’s business needs
  • Implemented the solution in the client’s environment and tested failover from one server to the other to ensure all systems functioned properly
  • Documented all systems and turned them back over to the WEC IT team to managed and run
